Why a pure AIS Receiver?
Unlike a transponder, the AIS9000 Marine AIS Receiver only receives AIS data from nearby vessels. It does not transmit your ship's position. This makes it perfect for:
- Vessels that are not required to transmit AIS (small craft, pleasure boats)
- Secondary monitoring station on the bridge or in the engine room
- Coastal surveillance / port authority monitoring
- Fleet operators who want to track their own vessels (each vessel has its own transponder, the central station only needs receivers)
It also serves as a cost-effective backup for AIS-enabled chart plotters.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. The AIS9000 Receiver is a dedicated receive-only unit. If you need to transmit, please consider our AIS9000 Transponder model.
No transmission means no MMSI is required for operation. However, you can configure an MMSI for internal logging if desired.
Yes. The NMEA0183 output (RS422/RS232) works with most marine plotters (Furuno, Raymarine, Garmin, Lowrance).
VHF antenna not included, but we recommend a standard marine VHF antenna with BNC connector. GPS antenna is provided.
