Static and dynamic ship data
Static and dynamic ship data
AIS transceivers transmit two types of information: static and dynamic.
The installed AIS antenna automatically calculates the ship's dynamic data, including position,
Speed to ground (SOG) and heading to ground (COG). Static data refers to information about the ship that must be programmed into the AIS transceiver.
The data includes:
• Maritime Mobile Service Identification Code (MMSI)
• Name of ship
• Ship's call sign (if any)
• Ship type
• Ship size
In most countries/territories, the operation of AIS transceivers is included in the vessel's maritime VHF licence regulations. Therefore, the vessel to install AIS must hold a currently valid VHF intercom license, which lists the AIS system, the ship's call sign and the MMSI number.
