NMEA 2000 Class B AIS Transceiver FAQ
What's the real difference between an AIS transceiver and a basic AIS receiver?
This is a two-way AIS transceiver, different from one-way receivers. It detects nearby vessel signals and actively broadcasts your boat's position, speed and MMSI data. It enables mutual vessel awareness, effectively boosting sailing safety for coastal cruising and fishing boats.
Is this Class B transceiver suitable for my small leisure boat or fishing boat?
Optimized for non-commercial small vessels like yachts, sailboats and fishing boats. It eliminates redundant commercial functions, featuring compact size, low power consumption and cost-effectiveness. It retains full core safety functions for standard inland and coastal recreational navigation.
What onboard systems will this AIS transceiver work with?
It works with all mainstream NMEA 2000 marine devices, including chart plotters, MFDs, radars, GPS and autopilot systems. It also supports legacy NMEA 0183 devices, fitting new and old onboard navigation systems.
Why do I sometimes miss AIS targets on my display?
Missing AIS targets is rarely a device fault, mostly caused by blocked antennas, loose wiring or coastal electromagnetic interference. Simply install the antenna in an open area and check NMEA 2000 connections to resolve unstable signal reception.
